January Beauty Favourites 2017: LOTS of Newness!

January Beauty Favourites 2017

01 February, 2017 January Beauty Favourites 2017: LOTS of Newness!

January was an odd month, as I tried to balance lots of wedding excitement, new responsibilities at work, and my regular blogging schedule. I’m happy to report wedding and work bits are going well, but blogging – not so much. I’m not particularly motivated at the moment, maybe because there’s a lot more on my mind that’s keeping me occupied.. anyway. Although I’m not super on it in terms of my blog and social media, I have been testing out a buttload of skincare and makeup, so let’s get into my January Beauty Favourites 2017, shall we?

January Beauty Favourites 2017

Sarah Chapman Skinesis Eye Recovery (£39.50)

I picked this up in the first week of Jan, and haven’t stopped using it. It’s an antioxidant-packed eye cream with a lovely silky texture, that helps to immediately hydrate my skin and create a sort of plumping effect. It’s amazing for tired eyes, and I love how luxe the packaging is too.

May Coop Raw Sauce ($43)

My fiancee (saying that will never not be weird) bought this for me when he was on holiday in December, as I may have mentioned this 15-20 times… it’s an essence packed with acer maple water, and it’s so, so, so good at giving my skin a boost of moisture after cleansing. It absorbs incredibly quickly and I love how this feels on my skin, giving it a really fresh and clean, yet quenched sensation.

Superdrug Vitamin E Serum (£3.99)

For a little extra slip and hydration under makeup, I usually turn to this bad boy. I’ve been through three bottles and am so impressed with the formula and efficacy, considering how cheap it is! If you’re after a no-frills serum you can use morning and night, this is brilliant.

Merumaya Retinol Resurfacing Treatment* (£33.50)

You probably already know how much I love Merumaya skincare, and back in October I received this retinol-based cream to test out. I loved the effects and after three weeks started to notice an improvement in pigmentation on my cheeks, along with a slight fading around the dehydration lines near my eyes. I’m so glad to have this back in my routine, and love that it’s creamy and nourishing enough to be used as your final skincare step, considering how potent and retinol-packed the formula is.

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer (£3.90)

Wayne Goss can do no wrong in my eyes, and when he recommended this primer in a Youtube I went out and bought four – yes, four. This gel-cream primer features silicone as its primary ingredient to help smooth over pores and texture, but it doesn’t slip or slide – it feels more like a really light, non-greasy moisturiser that eventually absorbs and looks semi-matte when it’s dry. I’m really impressed with how this makes foundation and concealer look, and it even manages to help cover up dry areas around my nose and chin. Not bad for the price of a large coffee!

It Cosmetics CC Cream with SPF50 (£30)

I picked this up about 10 days ago, and I’m already hooked. I was conscious of the lack of SPF in my skincare and makeup routines, and as summer is en route, I thought I’d try this out as there are so many rave reviews in blogs and on Youtube. I’d say this has a satin finish that looks like a second skin, and it does a decent job of concealing redness, pigmentation and my larger-than-normal pores. Stay tuned for an in-depth review!

Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 23 Copper Blush ($14)

Another gift from my fiancee, this stunning colour from the Cream Lip Stain collection is probably my dream lip shade – a touch of mauve, a hint of deep pink, a little bit brown and just the right blend of warm and cool tones. I love the formula, and it pairs beautifully with MAC’s Whirl lip pencil.

NYX Prismatic Eyeshadow in Liquid Gold (£5)

During the quest for the ultimate gold eyeshadow in December last year, I picked up this rich gold colour from NYX. It’s not as pigmented as I’d hoped, but it makes a great base for glitter, and is also lovely pressed onto the mobile eyelid, with a warm brown in the crease.

Too Faced Natural Matte Eye Palette ($36)

I use this palette nearly every day, and find it to be the most versatile and useful in my collection, when it comes to matte colours. The deep brown and cool-toned red are probably my favourites, and the compact size makes it amazing for travel.

Colourpop Blush in Between the Sheets ($8)

Oh Colourpop, how I adore thee! I really enjoy the spongey, creamy blushers, and this mid-tone beige-pink is the perfect everyday colour. I like to use a synthetic or duo fibre brush for the most natural application.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit in Surreal Light (£69)

When I want a little more shimmer than normal, this palette is the one I turn to. My skin this January has been super dull, so the shimmery face powder, bronzer and highlighter have all been amazing for adding definition and radiance. Plus, the two blushers combine to create a really stunning rose shade, which looks lovely applied over Between the Sheets if I’m going out in the evening.

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy (£14)

I heard Anna from The Anna Edit mention this years ago, but it was only in the last week of December that I decided to give this a go. Urban Decay describe this as a gold glitter, but to me it’s more of a silver-champagne. That being said, it adds the most stunning, super-bright sheen to eyelids, and makes a great addition to a gold or bronze smoky eye. I’m not such a fan of the super-thin applicator, but I can overlook this for how beautifully it gilds my eyes.

Nexxus Nutritive Shampoo (part of a set; £23.52)

Last up is a conditioning shampoo from Nexxus. I discovered this through the first QVC Tili box, and am really impressed with how refreshing and deep-cleaning it is, without stripping my hair of moisture and leaving it feeling course and brittle. I like to use this after working out and I would also skip conditioner with this too, although the conditioner it comes with in the above kit is fab!
