Emergency Beauty Stash: My 12 Handbag Must-Haves

Emergency Beauty Stash

20 October, 2016 Emergency Beauty Stash: My 12 Handbag Must-Haves

In need of a Tangle Teezer? You’re covered. Not sure what lipstick to wear for that big meeting? Allow me to introduce my suits-all nude. Too much garlic in your lunch-time salad? I’ve got gum AND Smints. Friends and colleagues are often surprised at my hefty stash of emergency beauty bits I like to keep with my at all times, but I’d feel lost without them.

Emergency Beauty Stash

I’ve written this sort of post a couple of times in the 2.5 years I’ve been blogging, but I’m really happy with the edited selection of emergency saviours I now cart around in my handbag. This usually comes with me wherever I go – on the plane, to work, out for dinner, and even when I’m out shopping – there’s nothing worse than being stuck in a sweaty Topshop changing room without a brush, and realising you look like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards.

Enough rambling, let’s get down to business!

1) Mattifying Face Powder

Any old powder will do, but make sure it absorbs oil, won’t move your makeup underneath, and can be easily replaced if you smash it. My pick is the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot.

2) Bronzer and Highlighter Duo

This is for those days when you look grey and need some colour in your life, or you’re going out after work and need your makeup to look fresh and bronzed. The Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow is fantastic, and both shades look great as eyeshadows too.

3) Hairbrush or Comb

If you don’t carry a brush with you at all times, then I’m not sure we can be mates. I replace my Tangle Teezer every six months and absolutely love them. Despite what most people say, I think they’re fine to use on wet hair too.

4) Cotton Buds

It’s always when you don’t have them that you smudge mascara on your nose! Pick up a pack for 59p in Boots.

5) Eyelash Curlers

Again, one of those can’t-live-without products that I always forget to use at home and then realise I forgot my emergency pair too. They immediately make you look wide awake and perky, especially if you haven’t had coffee yet. My faves are the Shu Uemura ones.

6) Holy Grail Mascara

Whichever mascara makes your lashes look the best, buy an extra tube and keep it with you. However crappy you’re feeling, lashings of volumising mascara will give you a mini lift. My favourite is the Maybelline Lash Sensational – I currently have seven tubes on the go!

7) Liquid Eyeliner

This is probably an option for most of you, but for me, it’s a necessity. I always wear liquid liner and nothing boosts my confidence more than a slick of a jet black wing. Whether I’m going for a subtle or dramatic look, having my Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner is my ultimate beauty security blanket.

8) The Perfect Nude Lipstick

I used to carry a million lipsticks, glosses and liners with me, but now, I just stick to one any-occasion colour. Clinique’s Pop Lip Matte in Blush Pop is a gorgeous creamy nude with hints of peach, pink, mauve and brown. It doesn’t dry my lips out and reapplies well. The lid is also slightly reflective so applications on a moving train are super easy too.

9) Neutral Blusher

A subtle blush colour will pull any look together, and even if you’ve got no makeup on at all, it can still make you look healthy and alert. Clinique’s Cheek Pops are super dinky and compact, offer a hint of shimmer without looking glittery, and come in a great range of shades. My favourite is Heather Pop, although I believe it was a limited edition run. Melon Pop and Pink Pop also look lovely!

10) Tinted Brow Gel

I normally fill in my brows with pencil and then go over them with a clear or tinted brow gel, but for when I’m on the go, something like Benefit’s Gimme Brow is great. It adds colour, definition and texture, and if you have thin, fair brows like me, it helps to instantly frame your face.

11) Gum and Smints

Self-explanatory. It’s always better to have them than not to!

12) No-Kink Hair Band

Again, always useful, but I normally carry a handful for friends when we go out-out. There’s something about having a hairband with me that makes me feel prepared for any kind of beauty emergency.
