Bridesmaid Beauty: Prep For The Big Day

25 August, 2016 Bridesmaid Beauty: Prep For The Big Day

This is it dudes. The big day. My oldest friend Amy is getting married in just a few hours, and I can’t quite believe that after more than a year of planning, it’s finally arrived. I thought it might be useful to share some bridesmaid beauty tips and tricks on how I’ve prepared for her big day (or how you can get ready for any big event in general), including which makeup I’ve chosen to keep everything in place despite a tear tsunami, skincare advice, and some general wisdom other friends have shared with me.

Step 1: Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate

I cannot stress enough how much better you’ll look if you exfoliate. We’re all currently abroad for Amy’s wedding and the heat is giving everyone a gorgeous glow, but that also means skin can look dry and crepey. Choose a liquid exfoliant like the Pixi Glow Tonic, use a high factor SPF everyday, and apply it everywhere – I’m talking arms, legs, face, décolletage, even your stomach.

Step 2: Hydrate to within an inch of your life

I’ve taken away so many hydrating products as part of my bridesmaid beauty prep, including oils, serums and lotions to keep my skin in top condition. Obviously I’ve developed a mammoth spot on my left cheek 24 hours before showtime, but the Antipodes Aura manuka honey mask has helped to calm it down. For under makeup, I’ve chosen the Paula’s Choice Calm Redness Relief Moisturiser as a pre-primer base, and have regularly slathered on the Piz Buin Tan-Intensifying Aftersun and the Antipodes Cell Repair Night Oil.

Step 3: Buy all the waterproof mascara

Accept it: you’re going to get emotional. Purchase a waterproof version of your favourite mascara, and have it to hand in case of any smudges throughout the day/night. I’m also bringing pre-soaked cotton buds with makeup remover in case of any eye makeup emergencies in the bridal party.

Step 4: Stop eating carbs 24 hours before

I convinced myself I was going to lose two stone before this wedding, and that didn’t happen. Whoops. However, I haven’t touched a carb since Monday and I’m feeling fab – so I’d suggest if you’re wearing Spanx and want to keep your intestines intact during the ceremony, stick to protein and veg to keep you sustained.

Step 5: Rock your most gorgeous makeup look

A bride’s wedding day is all about her, and I’m honoured to be able to help Amy throughout the day. I also do not want to start getting ready to find I have no bloody clue what makeup I want to wear. I’ve been told that choosing your makeup look a few days before keeps your routine quick and easy, so that you can devote as much time to the bride as possible, and concentrate on calming her down.

If you’re wondering, I’m going for a gold/bronze smoky eye with my Anastasia Beverley Hills Modern Renaissance Palette, my new Clinique Matte Lip Pop in Blush Pop, and very natural skin (no foundation, controversially) with the help of Benefit’s Dallas and loads of the NARS Contour Blush in Olympia. Pics will be up on Instagram!

Happy Thursday and congrats Amy and David – how bloody cute are they?!
