Summer Beauty Edit: Makeup, Scents, Haircare & Bodycare

Summer Beauty Edit

29 July, 2016 Summer Beauty Edit: Makeup, Scents, Haircare & Bodycare

Last week I showcased some great new summer skincare bits, and today I’m sharing my edit of summer beauty essentials – the makeup, scents, haircare and bodycare that have been rocking my world recently.

With warmer weather comes a more focused approach to the products I use: I want coverage without looking caky, and I usually amp up the hydration levels in my haircare and body care. I also often choose fragrances that are lighter, fresher and fruitier. Keep scrolling for my complete summer beauty edit!

Summer Beauty: Makeup

The weather in London has been INSANE, and I’ve needed all the shine-absorbing help I can get. For primer, Make Up Forever’s Smoothing and Mattifying options have been lovely, and I’ve been popping The Body Shop Instaglow Peachy Glow CC Cream SPF20 PA+++* on top to help colour correct and add a pop of colour to my face. My base option has been Urban Decay’s Naked Skin One and Done Hybrid Complexion Cream to smooth things out, conceal blemishes and keep me looking healthy, and I’ve been blotting oil throughout the day with my MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Powder in Medium Plus.

For a mid-tone bronzer and rosy-mauve blush, Soap and Glory’s Solar Powder and Tarte’s Exposed have been gorgeous – they will probably suit anyone (unless you’re very deep or super pale in skin tone), and they’re also compact enough to pop in my handbag.

I’ve been exclusively using the Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette on my lids, and I can’t imagine I’ll be applying anything else all summer. The colours are warm and stunning, there are a few pretty highlight shades, and the crease colours are incredible. See my full review with swatches here.

On the lips, I’ve worn nothing but the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita with MAC Whirl Lip Liner. I’m set on this lip combination for my best friend Amy’s wedding in August, and when worn with the Anastasia palette, lots of bronzer and in a blush-pink dress, I think the combo will be fab.

Summer Beauty: Scents

I’m obsessed with fruity, sweet scents in the summer, and two that I’m constantly reaching for are Philosophy’s Fresh Cream Eau de Toilette, and the Korres White Tea, Bergamot & Freesia Eau de Toilette.

The Philosophy fragrance has gorgeous creamy notes of tonka bean, vanilla and brown sugar, and it smells quite decadent and rich, without being sickly sweet. It couldn’t be more perfect for this time of year, and I’ll be taking this away with me in August for my hols.

The Korres scent is a lot less sweet and traditionally feminine, and it has gorgeous citrus and wood notes that make it perfect for every day. Like most Korres perfumes, this isn’t too strong, and I can easily wear it for work and keep it in my handbag for re-applications.

Summer Beauty: Haircare

As a faux blonde (I much prefer faux to fake), I have to work extra hard to keep my blonde tones cool and yellow-free. I’ve always loved the PRO:VOKE Touch of Silver Brightening Shampoo, and in the summer it especially helps to keep my bleached sections under control. The intense purple colour makes it perfect for temporarily removing brassy and warm tones in my hair. I do think it’s most effective when my hair has been recently bleached, as using this when your roots have really grown out can create more of a contrast between the highlights and your natural colour.

The John Frieda Beach Blonde Kelp Help Deep Conditioning Masque is fab for giving limp locks a moisture boost, and it’s lightweight texture doesn’t leave my hair greasy or limp. I think the entire Beach Blonde range is amazing for summer, and I always take the shampoo and conditioner away with me on holiday.

Last up in haircare is the Natura Siberica Oblepikha Scalp Scrub*.This rather obscure Siberian brand was introduced to me by a UK PR company, and I’m loving testing out a few products from their various skincare, bodycare and haircare ranges. This scalp scrub is enriched with raspberry seed, argan oil, mint and marigold extract, and it has the consistency of a watery jam. The scent is lovely and the scrub itself is great for balancing a dry scalp without getting too gritty and gross. The grains wash out quickly and I quite enjoy using this once a week before a hair treatment, to help detox my hair and keep things looking shiny and fresh.

Summer Beauty: Body Care and Suncare

Bodycare in the summer is all about hydration – I only choose products that help extend my tan and provide a dewy glow. The Piz Buin Aftersun Tan Intensifier contains Tanimel to keep your colour around for longer, and it’s super moisturising too. Alongside an after-tan product, I like to keep my skin supple with aloe vera-enriched bodycare. The Dr. Organic range have a gorgeous Aloe Vera Gel and Aloe Vera Body Butter – both perfectly nourishing, light and nasty-free. The gel can be applied pretty much anywhere you need it, and it’s great to help soothe and calm angry, reddened skin.

My new body scrub obsession comes from uber-cool bodycare brand Willow. They sent me two body scrubs – one Coffee & Peppermint, the other Pomegranate & Dead Sea Salt – and I can’t decide which one I love more! Both scrubs have a thick, emollient consistency, with gorgeously rich scents that linger on the skin. They’re perfect for prepping skin before tanning and also lovely to use on holiday, to add to your chilled-out vibe. Also, they’re 100% vegan. Which is lovely.

My final beauty edit hero product for summer, is the Korres Santorini Vine Shower Gel. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a body wash more. It’s creamy, delicately scented of grapes and gorgeous green notes, and it froths up an absolute wonder. At £8 a bottle it’s not cheap, but it’s a relatively affordable beauty love that I indulge in weekly.
