16 March, 2016 Hand Cream Heroes for Smooth, Supple Skin
I’ve developed a habit of stockpiling bodycare and haircare products, and on a recent count, realised I had over 15 hand cream tubes stashed away in my bathroom cupboards. I can’t stand having scaly, cracked skin, so keeping my hands smooth and regularly moisturised is always a priority. Today, I’m sharing some of my hand cream heroes, and a rather fabulous hand scrub, which I recently picked up.
I love stumbling across hidden gems in Boots, and my favourite affordable find has to be the Boots Essentials Hand and Nail Cream (£1.49). This stuff is cheap, seriously hydrating, and almost always on offer. I keep one by my desk, one by the sink, and one in my car. It’s basic, but it does the job incredibly well.
Next up is a slightly more decadent take on the humble hand cream: Merumaya’s Hydrate and Protect Hand Cream* (£12.50). This hand cream has the signature Merumaya spa-like scent, contains hyaluronic acid to soothe, and mineral UV filters to protect hands from harmful sun rays. If you’re looking to help address signs of ageing, this is the product for you!
If you like your hand creams to be rich, balmy and almost solid in texture, then the Philosophy Hands of Hope Hand and Cuticle Cream (£7) is going to be right up your street. I typically reserve this for slathering all over my hands after I’ve washed my makeup brushes, as it quickly seals in moisture and helps protect my hands at the delightful ‘pruning’ stage. With glycerin, trusty hyaluronic acid and a bunch of nourishing oils, it’s the most intensively moisturising product on the list.
My gorgeous pal Caitlin bought me the Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille Hand Cream (£13) recently, and I cannot get over how divine the scent is. It smells like a dessert! I reserve use of this for just before bed, as I don’t want to waste a drop. These hand creams make lovely gifts, and look so pretty on a bedside table.
My last hand cream recommendation is the Crabtree & Evelyn Pomegranate, Argan and Grapeseed Ultra-Moisturising Hand Therapy (£9). My boyfriend bought me a huge set of these hand lotions from Crabtree & Evelyn, and I love them all. They’re teeny enough to pop in your handbag, and the pomegranate scent smells divine.
Although not a hand cream per se, the Champneys Harmonious Hands Restoring Hand Scrub (£6) is the perfect product to pair with a moisturising lotion. It removes dead skin, helps to smooth out any rough or bumpy patches, and it smells incredible – a lovely blend of gardenia, patchouli and musk. I keep a tube by my sink for spontaneous exfoliating sessions, should the mood arise.
I definitely do love a good hand cream, and I’d love to know your recommendations. Share your faves below, and don’t forget to let me know what you like from my picks!
Happy hump day!
