04 March, 2016 February Beauty Favourites 2016
My February Beauty Favourites 2016 is rather massive this week, and features eight makeup and skincare bits that I’ve been loving over the last 29 days. From eyeshadows to facial sprays, there’s something for everyone. Let’s jump in!
My first favourite from the month of February is the BECCA Ombre Nudes Palette (£36). My gorgeous sister Katie picked this up for me in December for my birthday, and I’ve been loving the mixture of cool and warm-toned browns for everyday wear. The formula has just the right mixture of cream and powder textures, so each shade blends beautifully without kicking up too much product, or depositing excess pigment. The entire palette is matte, making it an absolute essential pairing with any shimmery shadow collections you use.
Next in my February Beauty Favourites 2016 is the wonderful MOA Aphrodite Facial Oil* (£20, review here). After testing this out along with a lovely bath product from the brand, I’ve really come to enjoy MOA products. This luxurious, silky oil hydrates and plumps the skin, and has been a godsend for dry, flaky patches that have been randomly appearing on my cheeks. I blame central heating!
A skincare staple of mine is the Glossier Priming Moisturiser ($18, reviews here and here). I’ve been using this sparingly over the last year, and it pains me to say that I’ve nearly finished up my tube. This primer-moisturiser hybrid is lightweight, emollient and super gentle on the skin, and works brilliantly well as a primer to extend the wear of foundation, concealer and powder, or as a daytime moisturiser if you’re going for an ‘au natural’ look. I really hope Glossier start shipping to the UK soon, seems like people are desperate to test their goodies out!
For a base this February, my go-to option has been the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Oil Free Photo Edition Foundation (£35, review here). Despite the obnoxiously long name, this foundation is fantastic. It blurs over pores, reduces shine, conceals redness and imperfections, and imparts a healthy – but never greasy – glow. I’m more than happy to recommend this foundation to oily-skinned gals, although I think more normal-dry complexions will love this too.
Two wonderful drugstore products I’ve loved this month are the GOSH Natural Blush in Flower Power (£7.99), and the GOSH Velvet Touch Lip Liner in Nougat Crisp (£4.99, review here). GOSH is such an underrated brand; they really do have some brilliant hidden treasures. Flower Power is a pretty, vibrant pink with a hint of peach, and it’s totally matte – meaning you can wear it to work without worrying about looking like a disco ball. In some lights, it looks like an identical dupe to Bobbi Brown’s Apricot, one of my HG blushes when you need a healthy flush. For lips, the iconic Nougat Crisp has been my go-to. It’s creamy, blendable, the perfect mix of pink and brown, and it’s so darn affordable. A handbag essential for sure!
I left my job last month to move on to pastures new, and my good pal Caitlin bought me the amazing Caudalie Beauty Elixir (£11.50) as a farewell gift, along with a lovely Laura Mercier hand cream (review coming soon). I’ve been spritzing this luxurious mist every day whenever I need a boost of motivation, and it was such a thoughtful pressie – y’all know I love my spritzers and sprays!
Last up is a total impulse splurge – the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Frozen Quartz (£29). This takes my Ombre Blackstar collection up to three, and I’ll be writing a full round-up of ALL my eyeshadow pencils, crayons and sticks very soon. This shade is a mauve-pink with TONS of bronze and gold glitter running through. It’s a lovely spring shade, and can be worn all over and lightly blended out, or intensely packed onto the centre with some matte brown in the crease. These eyeshadow crayons are so versatile and luxe – I have my eye on Brown Perfection next!07
