02 February, 2016 January Beauty Favourites 2016
Greetings, one and all. I’m excited to share with you my January Beauty Favourites 2016 – and the first monthly favourites post of the new year!
I’m going to start off by saying that January was a bit of a sh*tter. Apologies for swearing, but after coming back from a gorgeous trip to Costa Rica and Miami, dreary London was not at all welcoming. To compensate, I indulged in lots of lovely skincare and makeup, both from previous 2015 hauls, and my mammoth one in Sephora (full post coming next week). I hope you enjoy my January Beauty Favourites 2016 – as always, leave your thoughts, comments and recommendations below!
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Dollface ($28): I picked up this pretty lilac-pink blush in a Miami Sephora, and really loved the pastel vibe. It’s quite different to my usual mauve-nude shade, but I like that. It’s great on the apples of the cheeks, and as per usual with this incredible formula, it blends beautifully, and lasts for a solid 10 hours (12 is pushing it) without fading.
L’oreal Volume Million Lashes Feline Mascara (£9.99): I went on a mini mascara haul earlier this month, picking up three new launches from L’oreal. This was my pick of the bunch. The formula is inky-black, the brush is great if you loved curled, voluminous and semi-clumped lashes, and the tiny plastic bristles means every individual lash is coated and defined.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel (£30): an oldy but a goody, this lightweight moisturiser is the perfect tonic for skin that can’t make up its mind. It’s rich enough to properly hydrate and smooth my complexion, without making it feel greasy or overly nourished. I bought this giant 200ml bottle in Boots for only £8 more than the standard 125ml version, but can’t find it anywhere online. Linked above is the regular size (which should still last you a bajillion years).
Antipodes Apostle Skin Brightening and Tone Correcting Serum* (£37.75) and Juliet Brightening Gel Cleanser* (£22.50): Antipodes is probably my favourite organic brand discovery from 2014, and their PR team in the UK are kind of amazing when it comes to hooking up bloggers with products they think we would love. I was sent their fantastic Apostle serum and Juliet cleanser, both of which received full reviews in this Skincare On Trial post. The serum is milky, water-based and perfect for lightening scars, boosting radiance and balancing oil production, and the cleanser is my new go-to morning shower facial wash. It’s gentle, gets rid of nightly oil build-up, and doesn’t make skin feel papery or tight. Tens all around!
Merumaya Gentle Exfoliating Toner* (£17.50): a PR package that arrived in the mail only a few days ago was from another favourite skincare brand, Merumaya. Their brand new Gentle Exfoliating Toner claims to effectively exfoliate and renew the top layer of the skin, without causing any irritation. I’ve tested it out about four times, and have noticed increased smoothness and softness with each use. It’s packed with AHAs and Hyaluronic acid, and would be a fantastic product to add to your regimen if you have oily/combination/mature skin. I’ll be sharing a full review very soon.
Sephora Cream Lip Stains in #01 Always Red and #13 Marvellous Mauve (both $14): I have to blame Allana Davison (aka Allanaramaa) for introducing me to these beautiful lipsticks. Marvellous Mauve is a new go-to deep nude/mauve/rosy shade (see swatches and a full review here), and Always Red is a vibrant cherry that rivals MAC’s Ruby Woo for its universally-flattering blue tones. Both shades are opaque, creamy and comfortable on the lips, and are a great size for chucking into your handbag if you’re heading out for the day.
Makeup Geek Homecoming, Latte, Roulette, Bitten and Shimma Shimma Eyeshadows (each £4.95): last up is a brand I’m super excited to talk about in my January Beauty Favourites 2016. I’ve been coveting Makeup Geek and their extensive range of shadows for a while, and they’re finally available in the UK! Beauty Bay have managed to sort out their shipping issues, making picking up these affordable, creamy and pigmented shadows an absolute breeze. I have to thank Jasmine from Jasmine Talks Beauty for sharing her amazing review and swatches, as I basically used her blog as a guide for which shadows to pick. I love all of the shades I ordered, and I’ll be sharing a post with swatches, colour-combinations and a full review VERY soon.
Standout shades are Homecoming (a shimmery cool-toned bronze), Latte (a mid-tone matte brown; perfect in the crease), Roulette (a pearl-finish copper-gold), Bitten (a satin burgundy-brown) and and Shimma Shimma (a creamy champagne-beige highlight that’s perfect applied to the centre of the lid).
