17 December, 2015 Top Six: Skincare Brands
Although I love to test out new skincare brands, I always come back to my firm favourites – the ones that offer fantastic quality, reasonable prices, and gorgeous formulations that perk up my complexion when I need it most. Some skincare brands do one product incredibly well, but it’s rare to find a range that creates effective skincare solutions for each individual skincare step. From blemish-busting face masks to rich and silky cleansing balms, the following six skincare brands offer a selection of complexion perfectors that I’m more than happy to place in my Skincare Hall Of Fame.
First up is Antipodes. This range hails from New Zealand, and features a selection of locally-sourced ingredients (think grapeseed oil, manuka honey and organic vanilla pods) that are incredibly nourishing and calming on all complexions. Read my brand focus here, and check out my favourite products from the range:
Aura Manuka Honey Mask – a gorgeous mask that calms, soothes and intensively hydrates.
Hosanna H20 Intensive Skin-Plumping Serum – light yet potent serum that smooths lines and adds a subtle glow.
Rejoice Light Facial Moisturiser – great everyday moisturiser for combination skin. Smells divine!
Grapeseed Butter Cleanser – a pampering, rich cleanser to use as a makeup remover and a facial massager.
First Aid Beauty is a range famous for their gentle, emollient formulas that are perfect for sensitive skin types. Their Facial Radiance Pads are a constant re-purchase in my skincare stash, and their spot treatments, serums and cleansers are fantastic too. Here are a few of my current loves:
Face Cleanser – creamy and slightly foaming. Great as a second cleanse.
Facial Radiance Pads – perfect for exfoliating without using harsh physical scrubs. Can even use around the eyes!
Ultra Repair Facial Moisturiser – a light, nourishing moisturiser that I always bring on holiday for sunburnt skin.
Liz Earle is a classic British skincare brand that I always come back to. Their iconic Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser is a beauty blogger favourite, and they have a fantastic selection of perfumes too.
Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – the original, and still the best. Great in the morning to revitalize the complexion.
Instant Boost Skin Tonic Spritzer – a beautiful boost of hydration that’s great under serum, moisturiser and base.
Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion – the only product I reach for when I’ve been feeling weepy. Soothing, calming and great for sensitive skin!
La Roche Posay are such a reliable brand, and provide particularly fantastic products for blemish-prone complexions. I love their Effaclar range (their moisturiser is wonderful under makeup), and their Physiological range is pretty good too.
Effaclar Duo+ – the ultimate spot-treater. Use as a treatment under serum, or apply in a light layer under primer for oilier days.
Serozinc Zinc Sulphate Solution – cooling, refreshing, and fantastic for killing bacteria on blemishes. Always in my skincare stash!
Hydraphase Intense Masque – a great mask to pop on after a few hours in the sun. Lovely and light, also quite scent-heavy.
Physiological Makeup Remover Milk – my new favourite cleansing milk. This stuff smells incredible and is wonderful if your skin is sore and sensitive, and you want a seriously gentle cleanse that will get rid of pollution, excess sebum and general city grime.
Merumaya is a newer brand on the skincare scene, and a great exemplar for passion-driven, uncomplicated, high-quality products that are British-made and reasonably priced. Their two cleansers (a nourishing balm and a frothy wash) are divine and have quickly become staples in my skincare regimen.
Melting Cleansing Balm – a gentle balm that dissolves makeup easily and pampers the skin thoroughly. Couldn’t recommend enough!
Iconic Youth Serum – a surprisingly thick serum that brightens, fills in fine lines and hydrates deeply. Stunning scent too.
Mud Marvels Mask – a clay-based mask for pore purification and blackhead reduction.Easy to apply, and noticeable results from the first use.
Luxury Facial Wash – a lightly foaming cleanser that works beautifully with my Clarisonic for a refreshed, invigorated complexion.
I love REN. This Swedish line do cleansing SO well – they have a huge selection of milks, gels and creams, along with some of the best face masks I’ve ever tried.
Rosa Centifolia Cleansing Gel – a simple, refreshing gel that is great in the morning, and perfect for travel.
ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser – the cleanser I reach for when my skin just won’t cooperate. Great for acne-prone complexions.
Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial – packed with Vitamin C, this once-a-week treatment is great for reducing acne scarring, boosting radiance, and sloughing off dead and dull skin.
Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask – a REN classic, the Glycolactic mask is packed with AHAs to exfoliate the surface of the skin quickly and gently. Smells like apricot jam, feels quite tingly. Great for the evening before a big night out!
