26 October, 2015 MAC Lipstick Collection and Giveaway!
It’s probably common knowledge by now that I have a massive lipstick collection. From luxury, high-end brands, to cheap-as-chip drugstore offerings, I love them all. Out of all the lipstick brands I house in my MUJI drawers, the ones I turn to most frequently are from MAC. Back in August 2014 I shared my MAC lipstick collection with you all. It was one of my first ever blog posts, and I went swatch-crazy!
Since then I’ve broken, used up and bought a couple more, and I thought it was time to tell you about my MAC lipstick collection 2.0 – it’s bigger, bolder, and a lot more Kylie Jenner influenced. I hope you enjoy it, and make sure to check out my top six MAC lipsticks here!
Going from left to right, the first lipstick in my current collection is Rebel, a vibrant plum-purple in a matte finish. It’s gorgeous for Autumn and can be lightly dabbed on for a just-bitten look, or layered with a lip brush for a more intense, dramatic effect.
Next is Ruby Woo, one of MAC’s most iconic reds. The blue tint perfectly recreates the Marilyn Monroe Hollywood pout, and the ultra-matte formula makes this the perfect shade for a statement lip year-round.
The only true beige-nude I own from MAC is Honey Love. This is a matte, creamy neutral that can make lips look a little dead if you don’t apply liner underneath. I find MAC’S Whirl to be a great shade that brings out the pink tones in this shade.
Next to Honey Love is Fabby, a brand-new purchase, and a definite fave. This is my only MAC Frost lippie, but I might get a few more now that I’ve discovered it! My best pal Jess (aka Freshly Snapped) recommended this to me – it’s a lilac-pink with lots of micro-shimmer that looks gorgeous on it’s own, or applied on top of pinks and berries for a 3D finish. Definitely check it out the next time you’re at a MAC counter!
Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup always raves about MAC’s Patisserie, so after a Back-To-MAC session last month, I picked up this coveted shade. It’s a very sheer brown with hints of deep pink, but it’s not pigmented enough to wear for any other occasion than work or a chilled-out weekend. The Lustre finish keeps lips soft and conditioned, but for £15.50, I’d say save your pennies for a more colourful, opaque lipstick.
This is where things start to get more Kylie Jenner-influenced. Brave has been a long-time favourite of mine, and I love how matte and rich this feels on my lips. The Satin formula makes this comfortable without slipping or sliding, and it’s the perfect consistency to wear all day. It’s a dusty mauve-pink with a hint of lilac, and it looks great whether I’m tanned or super pale.
The brownest shade in my collection is Spice It Up! – although you wouldn’t know it from the swatch. It’s a gorgeous, rich chestnut shade in the Lustre formula, and it pairs perfectly well with my Dolce Vita palette from Charlotte Tilbury – if you own both, try it out and you’ll be blown away. It’s great if you’re into the brown lip trend but don’t want to go too dramatic, and can be built up for a more intense look, or tapped on for everyday.
Faux is your typical creamy, muted brown-pink. It’s perfect for Autumn and a great shade for work. It’s often compared to Brave, but with a little more brown to make it super wearable and natural-looking.
For sheer pink lovers, Creme Cup is the shade for you. It’s super pale and it can look Barbie-esque on some complexions, but I can just about pull it off when it’s dabbed on with a light hand. The cremesheen finish means this is perfect for applying on top of more opaque lipsticks too.
Capricious is such a great shade for this time of year. It has a berry tint that makes teeth look super white, and the nourishing, sheer formula means you don’t look too ‘done up’ when you wear this. A great colour for when you want to transform your makeup from day to night.
Another Kylie Jenner shade I’m currently obsessed with is Velvet Teddy. It’s a warm brown with hints of pink and peach that brings together any makeup look, and gives off an effortless 90s vibe. The matte finish is creamy without being drying, and it pairs perfectly well with MAC’s Hover liner.
There will always be the shades in your collection you keep purely for nostalgia, and for me, that shade is Modesty. It’s a basic deep pink-brown that’s glossier than Faux but less pigmented, and it doesn’t do much besides providing a hint of colour. However, it was the first Youtube-recommended shade I ever bought (after Tanya Burr raved about it), and it’s always nice to keep hanging around.
My last shade is a real classic – the berry-toned, mauve-pink Mehr. I always hear vloggers rave about this shade, and rightly so. It’s opaque, pigmented and seriously striking. I save this lippie for special occasions, to wear with my Soar liner, and the combination is gorgeous. I can imagine this looking awesome on olive-deep skin tones!
You can purchase MAC Lipsticks here for £15.50 each.
