28 September, 2015 September Favourites 2015
Now that Summer is well and truly over, I’ve embraced the cooler weather and dipped into my stash of autumnal beauty products for this September Favourites roundup. Autumn is my favourite season, as it’s the perfect time to whip out my cosy scarves and leather boots, and I’ve been enjoying some lovely Autumn-appropriate blushes, lipsticks and scents over the last few weeks. Keep scrolling to discover my September Favourites!
Autumn is always a great time to switch up your scent. My all-time favourite perfume is Jo Malone’s Oud and Bergamot Cologne Intense (£105 here), and it’s the perfect smoky but sweet fragrance for cooler weather. The combination of woody bergamot and musky oud is beautiful, and it stays on the skin for a good six hours before I need to reapply. It’s a seriously decadent perfume to own, so I like to ration my use to Autumn-Winter only, as I don’t waste any of this precious scent. Jo Malone’s Intense perfumes make great gifts, or as a ‘just because’ present if you want to treat yo self. Highly recommended!
In the middle of September was #OrganicBeautyWeek, and Antipodes got in touch to see if I’d be interested in receiving some of their cult classic skincare offerings. One of the products they sent me was the Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum* (£33.99 here, full review here). This water-based serum helps to ward off free-radicals with a highly concentrated combination of fruit and plant extracts, including kiwi, acai, blackcurrant and grape. The serum is so lightweight and it absorbs immediately, and the hydrating yet non-greasy formula makes it fantastic for oily-combination skin types. It’s great under makeup and can be used to lightly moisturiser underneath primer if you’re super oily.
I’m constantly trying new waterproof mascaras, and as I recently ran out of my Estee Lauder Sumptuous Waterproof Bold Volume (what a name), I needed something that would hold a curl, deliver length, definition and volume, and stay put all day too. The Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara (£7.99 here) is a super-volumizing mascara that curls the lashes beautifully, and the waterproof formula means I can apply in the morning and head to work without worrying about flaking or smudging. This is one of the best formulas in the drugstore and a must-have if you love waterproof mascara!
Along with waterproof mascara, I love a smudge-free, long-lasting liquid eyeliner. My trusty Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper sadly went to eyeliner heaven a few weeks ago, so I picked up the NARS Eyeliner Stylo in Carpates (£20.50 here) on an impromptu Space NK trip. The felt tip is sturdy yet flexible, and the shade is a glossy, rich black. It’s great for a simple straight line, but a cat-eye with this requires a lot of patience, and a very steady hand. I still enjoy this on a day-to-day basis, but I’m keeping my eyes peeled for a new liner that gives me a gorgeous flick!
ColourPop is a brand that I’ve wanted to try for AGES, so when a pal went to the U.S. on holiday two weeks ago, she kindly brought back some of their lipsticks and eyeshadows. I’ll be posting my huge haul in the next few days, but for now, I have to give a shout out to their incredible Super Shock Eyeshadows in Shark Attack and Sequin. These beauties are $5 each, seriously pigmented and emollient, and gorgeous popped onto the centre of the lid for a flash of iridescence that completely transforms a smoky eye. The shades are very warm-toned, and perfect with a mid-tone brown in the crease, with a darker brown in the outer corners.
Chillier weather always prompts me to wear some deeper, vampier lipsticks, so I’ve been reaching for my NARS Audacious Lipstick in Anna (£24 here) more and more frequently. This beautiful mauve shade is perfect for when I want my lips to make a statement, and the formula is rich, creamy and a pleasure to wear! I’d definitely recommend this shade if you’re looking for a wearable 90s mauve/purple/rose shade, and the packaging is fab too.
A new blush for my beauty stocks is the MAC Blush in Blushbaby (£16.65 here). The perfect neutral rose, it’s a slightly cooler and brighter version of my beloved Tarte Exposed. It’s lovely for everyday looks and the lack of shimmer means you can’t go wrong with the application.
Last up is the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser (£14 here), a fantastic second-cleanse when my skin requires a little more moisture. This creamy, thick wash is also lovely in the mornings, and I love how easily this dissolves oil, dirt and grime, whilst keeping my skin smooth and supple. The travel size is also really handy, although I’ll be picking up the full-size when I finish this bottle!
A bonus favourite from the month is this gorgeous Fall Lip Favourites video from one of my favourite Youtubers Ashley, who runs the channel MakeupTIA. She often talks about her favourite organic and natural beauty brands (which I’m really into at the moment), and her great recommendations and easily-replicable tutorials are so addictive.
