17 August, 2015 What’s New: The Blogger Beauty Box
Beauty boxes have become increasingly popular in the last year or two, with more and more subscription services offering a mixture of skincare, haircare and makeup, bundled together for a fantastic price. I love discovery boxes – so much so that I currently curate one for Baby2Body – and I was incredibly excited when Vicky from Vix Meldrew told me about her plans to create the first beauty box for bloggers. The Blogger Beauty Box features a mixture of skincare and makeup, and due to the limited number of boxes available each month, I’d suggest you get in there quickly to avoid disappointment!
I think that Vicky has done an incredible job with the boxes – she is a full-time teacher and recently moved into her new home, so the fact that she managed to get all of these boxes packaged and sent, along with setting up the online store, is pretty damn impressive. The logo is gorgeous and you can tell how much love and effort went into the project. I can’t wait to see how the Blogger Beauty Box develops and grows!
So, onto the products. The first product that caught my attention was the W7 Fluorescent Kiss Lipstick in Ibiza. I’m not a hot pink fan by any means, but this dabbed onto the lips with some NUXE Reve de Miel looks pretty and inoffensive, and is subtle enough for everyday wear. The formula is incredibly sheer so when applied as a full coat it can look patchy, but mix it with a gloss or a more natural-toned shade, and you’ve got a lovely summer-appropriate lip look.
The other W7 product was the Eye Lust Mascara. I usually prefer plastic bristle mascaras as opposed to the natural bristle ones, but this mascara really surprised me. It does a nice job of adding volume to the root of the lash, and creates a fluttery fan that lasts throughout my working day. I do favour more of a false-lash effect, so I’ll only be using this when I want my makeup to look really natural and effortless.
A brand that I only just discovered through the Blogger Beauty Box is Timeless Truth – a range of sheet masks for various skin concerns, including sensitivity, acne, dehydration and dullness. Whilst sheet masks look pretty terrifying, they contain a potent (and harmless) concoction of vitamins and natural plant extracts, and are fantastic for an instant boost to the complexion. The Multipeptide Revitalising Facial Beauty Mask works to improve fine lines and wrinkles, and Vitamin E helps to soothe and calm distressed skin. In terms of results I’ve not noticed anything dramatically different, but when I removed the mask my skin looked glowy and fresh, and a sheet mask is arguably a lot less messy than a traditional one!
The next product is a rather lovely one, but a little confusing. I’m very familiar with MooGoo in a professional and personal capacity, and love their products generally (read my previous reviews here and here). The MooGoo Cover Up Buttercup Moisturiser with SPF15 is essentially a face and body lotion that also contains sun protection, although why it can be used on the sensitive skin of the face and the arguably more durable skin on the body, I don’t really understand. The website only seems to confuse me more! Either way, it’s a lightweight, softening moisturiser that can be worn everyday, so you don’t have to worry about burning. However, oily skin types might want to avoid applying this on their t-zones to reduce shine.
Last but not least is the Dusty Girls Sun Shower Lipgloss. We actually include this lipgloss in the Baby2Body Box, so I was so excited to have one for myself! This gloss is completely non-sticky and creates a beautifully full look, and is colourless so you can apply it easily over your favourite lipstick.
