29 July, 2015 Top Six: Mid-Year Favourites 2015
Instead of my usual monthly favourites, I thought it might be useful to tell you about the products I’ve been loving for the last six or seven months. These mid-year favourites are the products I constantly reach for, and am always recommending to readers and friends. They’re either new releases for 2015, or are new to me, and there’s a bit of everything – from skincare to lip products – in the mix. Shall we begin?
A good cleanser was one of my beauty goals this year, and so far I’ve amassed an unhealthy collection of oils, milks, balms and gels. One that stands out from the rest is the Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser (£35 here). Rich in sandalwood, frankincense, black pepper and French clay, this foaming cleanser purges oil, dirt and excess sebum from pores whilst giving skin a deep and thorough cleanse. It feels lovely and refreshing, and I’d definitely recommend it to oily-skinned gals looking for a luxury lather!
Next up is the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed ($28 here). This shade is a beautiful mauve nude that can be worn on literally any occasion. It works for vampy looks, natural looks, and on just about any skin tone. The matte formula is incredibly soft and pigmented, and it’s pretty much impossible to get this wrong. Just blend onto the apples of the cheeks and voila!
Obviously there was going to be a lip product on the list, and taking the top spot for my mid-year favourites is the NYX Matte Lipstick in Whipped Caviar (£11 here). Julie from J. Beaute sent it to me as part of our GIANT beauty swap (blog post going live on Friday), as I’d wanted it for months and months, and couldn’t find it anywhere! The matte formula is comfortable without feeling too creamy on the lips, and it lasts for a good 4-6 hours. It’s a beautiful mauve shade and is a dead ringer for MAC’s Brave (but much nicer as a no-shimmer finish, in my opinion). It’s a classic 90s-inspired shade, and one you will definitely want for your collection.
Next – two shimmery, sheeny eyeshadow sticks from By Terry. Super pricey but so worth it, the Ombre Blackstars in Bronze Moon and Misty Rock (both £29 here) these buttery, pigmented shadows can be applied as a light wash of colour on the lids, or packed on for a more dramatic look. Bronze Moon is a classic deep gold with warm copper shimmer, and Misty Rock is a mauve/taupe/deep lilac that looks super pretty and twinkly on the lids. They are both stunning paired with winged liner and lots of mascara, and the portable twist-up crayon means they’re great to travel with too.
One of my newest finds is the Glossier Priming Moisturiser ($25 here). If you fancy reading a love letter to an inanimate object click here, but for now I’ll say that this primer is the tits. Easily absorbed, creamy, hydrating and great for extending the life of foundation, concealer and powder, this primer is perfect for normal-dry skin and even works on my oily-combo complexion. As I’ve just returned from a week baking in the hot sun, my skin needs all the moisture it can get, so this is doing a lovely job of reducing tightness and flaky areas when applying makeup.
My last mid-year favourite is the L’oreal Infallible Matte 24-Hour Foundation (£7.99 here). Again, this is one of those products I’ve raved about loads on my blog (click here for my thoughts), and I’m constantly recommending it to readers. It’s a medium-full coverage with a natural-matte finish, and it lasts for a crazy long amount of time – it even endures gross humidity on London transport! I’m currently looking for a darker shade so I shall keep you lovely lot updated with any future Infallible Matte developments.
What did you think of my mid-year favourites? Are there any here that you enjoyed too? I would also love to know about the products you’ve been raving about for the last six months! Share it all in the comments below.
