16 June, 2015 Top Six: MAC Lipsticks
MAC Cosmetics and I have been in a long-term relationship for a while now. Their lipsticks were the first I ever bought with my pocket money, and I’ve accumulated quite a stash (£16 in total) over the years. The huge range of shades, formulas and textures means that there’s always something new to try, and the iconic matte black bullet is a timeless addition to any beauty lover’s makeup bag (or MUJI storage system, in my case). I’ve narrowed down my six favourites for you to peruse – enjoy!
Mehr: this beautiful deep pink-mauve was totally Kylie Jenner-inspired. It’s incredibly creamy and pigmented, and makes a great alternative to bright reds or vampy purples. I usually wear this in a few swipes for fully opaque colour, but you can wear only one if you want a more natural look.
Faux: a stunning beige-pink, Faux is a real obsession of mine. It’s matte with hardly a hint of shimmer to be seen, and pulls any makeup look together. I love wearing Faux with a red-copper smoky eye, although natural makeup also looks pretty with this gorgeous shade. I’ve written about Faux at least five times on the blog – it’s tried and true, and one of the best colours MAC has come out with!
Rebel: blogger commandments dictate that you have to own at least one MAC ‘out-there’ lipstick – and Rebel ticks all the right boxes. It’s an usual bright purple-pink with a Radiant Orchid vibe that’s surprisingly wearable, and beautifully buildable. The finish is semi-matte that stains the lips with a gorgeous wash of colour. This would look STUNNING on dark skin tones!
Honey Love: my newest MAC lippie purchase is this beige-nude wonder. I can’t believe how long it took me to discover this! Like most of my favourites, it’s fairly matte, with an almost mousse-like texture that feels lovely on the lips. I wear Honey Love with Whirl lipliner for a little added definition. The result is a 90s-style nude lip that suits any occasion!
Ruby Woo: the classic Hollywood red. Ruby Woo screams confidence, and I feel pretty great when I wear it. This blue-based scarlet is seriously matte, drying, and tricky to remove, but when applied along with Cherry lipliner, it’s totally worth it.
Modesty: I used to wear this shade to school every day – it’s an OG classic. I’ve also gone through about three bullets, and always pick it up if I’ve got six empty containers for Back To MAC! The slightly pearlised Cremesheen finish means that this gives gorgeous dimension, and plumps up lips without looking too dramatic. With hints of beige, brown, mauve and pink, it’s the perfect lipstick for work – and gorgeous on any complexion.
You can buy all of these gorgeous shades here for £15.50.
