15 April, 2015 Getting Figgy With It
When I first thought about writing this blog post, emphasis was placed on the title, rather than the content and the ‘meat’ of what I wanted to talk about. Fig-uring It Out was a contender, along with Rolling In The Fig and Uptown Fig, and there were many other half-suggestions from family and friends that contributed to the lengthy decision-making process. We got there in the end, and I hope it’s at least piqued your interest in what it is that I’m going to be nattering about on this rather average Wednesday morning.
The answer, is figs. I hate the taste, but the smell is divine, and recently I’ve been dousing myself in liberal sprays of two gorgeous (and affordable) scents that you can pick up for just over £20 combined.
Roger & Gallet’s Fleur de Figuier Fresh Fragrant Water Spray is a light, clean scent that combines fig, grapefruit, mandarin and a vague sense of ‘greenery’ (is that even the correct term) to create a refreshing, uplifting scent that’s perfect for spring and summer. I love using this as a ’top-up’ on my Jo Malone Oud & Bergamot Cologne Intense for a lovely contrast of oriental and floral/fruity scents. £16 here (30ml).
A slightly muskier, woodier fragrance is the & Other Stories Fig Fiction Body Mist. Although it’s a spray rather than a more concentrated EDT or EDP, it still packs a punch and lingers on clothes and body for a good 2-3 hours. Notes include wild fig (the mysterious, fancy pants version of plain old fig), pink pepper, currants, Brazilian rosewood and dark plum – not bad for a fiver. £5 here (50 ml).
Although this was a short one, I hope this has at least brightened your day for a minute, and persuaded you to try out something fresh, revitalising and extra-sniffable.
Have you tried either of these scents? Let me know in the comments below! Bonus points for any fig-related song lyrics or titles.
