26 January, 2015 NARS Audacious Lipsticks – Worth The Splurge?
The NARS Audacious lipstick launch of September 2014 was huge news in the beauty industry, and bloggers, editors and lipstick addicts everywhere were falling over themselves to pick up one (or two, or three) of the 40 beautiful shades. Whilst the title of this blog post is ‘NARS Audacious Lipsticks – Worth The Splurge?’, I’ll save you the trouble of waiting to find out what I think by simply saying that THESE ARE AMAZING.
The formula is second-to-none: the finish is a creamy matte, each lipstick is highly pigmented so you can achieve a solid, opaque look in one swipe, and the sheer range of colours means that there really is something for everyone.
I own three of the lipsticks – one was gifted to me on my birthday by my lovely boyfriend, and the other two were purchased quickly after trying the first one.
Anna – The Interesting Mauve: this shade is a beautiful, deep pink-mauve, with subtle hints of purple and brown to make this one of the most complex shades in the range. I had seen loads of bloggers talking about this unique lipstick and couldn’t resist! It has a fairly creamy texture – more so than the other two I own – and looks beautiful paired with gold and copper shades. You can wear this as a stain by sheering it out with fingers, or pack on the colour by applying it straight from the bullet. MAC’s Whirl lipliner pairs really well with this lipstick, as does Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat pencils in Pillow Talk and Iconic Nude.
Raquel – The Peachy Nude: I had been steering clear of opaque nudes for a few months, favouring deeper, more brown-based colours, but there’s something about Raquel that is far too pretty to ignore! It’s a peach-based nude that doesn’t wash me out or make my skin look dull, and it’s slightly more matte in formula than Anna, making it easy for ‘swipe and go’ applications, and throwing into your handbag.
Charlotte – The Dramatic Red: My boyfriend bought me Charlotte for my birthday as he had seen it on my wishlist, and I’m so glad he did – it really is the ultimate, ‘going out’ colour. The perfect combination of deep, oxblood red and cooler burgundy, I’ve yet to find a deeper shade more beautiful or luxurious than this one. This has the most matte formula I’ve tried, and think that making the deeper shades more hard-wearing and dry was a brilliant decision on the part of NARS – a glossy dark lip can get messy very easily!
I absolutely adore these lipsticks, and the beautiful, sleek packaging and weighted matte tubes means one of these is definitely going to stand out in your makeup collection. However, in terms of longevity, the lighter shades can fade after about 4-5 hours, although for me this isn’t really a problem – just an excuse to carry one around with me!
The lipsticks retail for £24, and I’ve not seen them discounted anywhere. These are a ‘treat-yourself’ kind of lipstick, but I would definitely say these are worth the splurge, as the quality, beautiful shade range and luxurious packaging makes these essential additions to my huge lipstick collection.
If you were considering buying just one, think about which type of lipstick you use the most – do you love a nude lip? Do you prefer a shocking pink? Choosing a signature colour means you’re more likely to wear it all the time, and you’ll get the biggest bang for your buck. You can find an extensive list of shades swatched on the Temptalia site here.
