23 December, 2014 What’s New: Blonde Hair Saviours from John Freida
My hair has been through a lot. I’ve been bleaching it for years and in that time it’s become fairly course and dry. Along with that, bleach on dark hair can turn ashy highlights into brassy yellow ones if you don’t choose the right products to protect it. Since I lightened my colour in October, I’ve switched from a regular colour-protecting shampoo and conditioner to two products from John Freida that target brassy tones in bleached hair, as well as protect and nourish hair that’s become a little frazzled.
First is the Sheer Blonde Colour Renew Tone Correcting Shampoo. This counters discolouration and brassiness in bleached hair with violet pigments, to maintain a cool-toned, ashy look. It lathers really nicely and offers a great balance of colour protection whilst keeping hair feeling smooth and malleable. My colourist told me the best way to use a tone correcting shampoo is to leave it on for 5-10 minutes (like you would a conditioner) so as to allow it to penetrate the hair follicles and make the biggest impact. I use this every time I wash my hair and absolutely love it – it has a slightly chemical scent but nothing off-putting, and it doesn’t linger or irritate my skin. After three weeks of using this shampoo my hair looks much brighter, cleaner and cool-toned, and I’ll definitely be adding this to my list of holy grail beauty products! Buy here for £5.99.
Next up, the Sheer Blonde Everlasting Blonde Deep Conditioner – an intensive hair treatment for blonde or bleached hair that needs some TLC. Although this is a thick mask best suited for once-a-week applications, I like to indulge and use this every other time I shampoo and condition my hair. It leaves my hair looking bouncy and shiny, and I’ve noticed less breakage through general wear and tear than normal. Whilst this doesn’t do magical things to my bleached hair, it’s more effective than a regular deep conditioner and I love the scent to this as well – lemony, fresh, but not too heavy or cloying. If you have a tint or subtle highlights, this would work brilliantly, or on natural blondes as a weekly boost of moisture for dry hair. Buy here for £6.29.
The Sheer Blonde range from John Freida is an all-time favourite of mine, and these two are standouts for protecting and maintaining bleached blonde hair. What are your favourite products for blonde hair?
