30 October, 2014 Beauty Swap With Izzy Batista
About a month ago, Izzy, who writes a brilliant blog called Confessions Of A Makeup Hoarder, contacted me and asked me if I wanted to do a beauty swap with her: obviously, I said yes straight away! We agreed a budget and the type of products we would send (affordable-drugstore), and with a shopping list in hand, I headed to Boots and proceeded to go absolutely wild. Major Advantage points were gained (a post about that next week), and I left feeling both excited and slightly delirious.
I find buying makeup for other people incredibly satisfying, and I really loved guessing which products she would like, which one’s she had heard about, etc. etc. I’ll admit I did start to panic when my package hadn’t arrived in Australia after two weeks, but we got there in the end!
Without further ado, here are the products Izzy sent me, and my thoughts on them:
Essence Get Big Lashes Volume Boost Mascara – perfect for a full, fluttery eye, I’m seriously impressed with the longevity and dramatic impact of this mascara. The natural bristle brush is densely packed to ensure maximum volume and it holds a curl really well.
Essence Lash & Brow Gel – I seriously love this product. I’d been using one from Seventeen that made my brows feel dry and crispy, but this gel brushes hairs into place without leaving them feeling gross and coarse.
Essence 3D Eyeshadow in Caramel Cream – Izzy has hit the nail on the head when it comes to eye products. This gorgeous nude duo contains a shimmery cream and a deeper brown-taupe (an exact dupe for MAC’s Woodwinked), for a super easy smoky eye that blends like a dream. This paired with brown liner and the Essence mascara is all I’ve been wearing since I received the package!
Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Cream in Hon-O-Loo-Loo – a beautiful peachy pink. I find matte lip creams so hard to wear, but this pretty, everyday nude has a velvety texture that glides on and stays put. My lips didn’t feel dry and they didn’t smudge or bleed either, and worked perfectly with my new obsession, The Body Shop’s Beech lip liner.
Essence Mosaic Compact Powder in Sunkissed Beauty – a natural, bronze-tone highlight powder. that contains the perfect blend of reflective champagne shimmer and matte warm tones. I’ll probably save this for when I’m looking a bit more tanned, but a fab product to have on hand for subtle highlighting.
Physicians Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Lash Mascara – I was so excited to receive this, that I’ve only used it once, simply because I don’t want to use it all up! I’d heard loads of great reviews raving about this mascara, and I can see why – it’s seriously gentle on the lashes, leaves them with a glossy finish, and adds heaps of length and volume. Plus, it’s a dream to remove. This would be perfect if you have sensitive eyes that get irritated easily.
Face of Australia Translucent Loose Powder – something I always forget to buy is a loose setting powder. This has been my go-to powder for setting foundation and concealer, and the sheer formula means there’s no clinging to dry patches, and shine doesn’t peep through.
Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush in Radiant Blush – this was another product I’d heard loads about. Blended together, this blusher creates a beautiful satin rose shade, but when used individually you can create shades from deep mauve to pale pink, and build up the intensity depending on your skin tone and texture. This blush is incredible and I really have fallen for Physicians Formula products!
Essence All About Matte! Oil Control Paper – an oily girl’s essential. I keep these in my handbag for on the go touch ups, and they’re perfect for removing shine without messing up my makeup.
Chi Chi Cosmetics Eye Shadow Palette in Glamorous Nudes – the highlight of the package. This palette is UNREAL. Featuring 12 shades ranging from intense shimmers to muted mattes, these neutral shadows would suit any skin tone, as there’s an equal mixture of cool and warm tones. As you can see in the swatch, they’re incredibly pigmented and are seriously soft and blendable, and there’s not one shade I wouldn’t wear. Very impressed with Izzy for picking this out for me!
I honestly think I would do a beauty swap every month if my budget allowed it – it’s a brilliant way to try new products and it’s so fun to do! You can read Izzy’s review of all the products I sent her on her blog Confessions of A Makeup Hoarder, and check out her Instagram account @ConfessionsOfAMakeupHoarder for daily beauty inspiration!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the products I received, and I’d love to know your thoughts on the products, or beauty swaps in general.
Thanks again to Izzy for her generosity and amazing choice of products!
