03 September, 2014 Top Six: Handbag Essentials
I’ve been known to keep a rather large quantity of makeup and skincare products in my handbag. Whilst I see this as necessary, others would consider it as cause for a serious back injury. Recently I edited my on-the-go essentials down to six products which I now begrudgingly share with you today – I really do wish I could carry more with me!
I always carry a Tangle Teezer in my handbag.. I genuinely panic if I don’t have one on me during the day! I mentioned this in my Beauty Tools blog post (read here) as one of the essential items I have to have with me if I’m getting ready to go out or am on the go and need to look presentable. They’re compact, amazing at getting out knots and leaving your hair shiny and sleek, and they come in bright colours so they’re easy to find in your bag. I bought mine for £10.99 from Boots – buy here or in-store.
Over the last few days I’ve been reaching for the Bare Minerals READY Touch Up Veil instead of my usual Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot blotting powder. I bought this ages ago and it looks like I’ve barely dented the surface! I’ve been using it to refresh my makeup and reduce any shine on my skin, and as it has some colour in it (I wear the shade Medium) you get great coverage without your skin looking caky or powdery. Buy here for £22.
Next is one of my favourite mascaras – Max Factor Masterpiece Max. This mascara will give you lashes for DAYS – the plastic bristles create volume, separation, length and curl, and I love it for when I need to touch up my mascara without my lashes becoming clumpy or sticky. It’s a great, foolproof product to keep in your bag, with the added bonus that one tube will last for ages! Buy here for £9.99.
A lip product that I love for touch-ups on the go is the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 02 Apricot Shimmer. This is a gorgeous pinky-peach colour that moisturises, plumps and perfects my lips whilst keeping them looking natural and fresh. This is a really low maintenance product and I love it for when I’m having a mid-day slump and my lipstick has completely disappeared. I bought mine for around £14 from Duty Free but you can pick it up here for £18.
A great product to have in your bag is a body spray. At the moment I’m loving The Body Shop’s Shea Body Mist – it has a gorgeous, nutty scent and I love it if I’ve been on the tube and need to feel refreshed without applying an intense perfume. One bottle lasts for AGES and the whole range of body sprays are great value for money. Buy here for £7.50.
My final handbag essential is a blush colour. At the moment I’m using the NYX Blush in Pinched, a gorgeous deep pink with gold shimmer running through it. If my makeup is disappearing in the middle of the day, I’ll apply a light dusting of this on the apples of my cheeks to perk up my complexion. The pigmentation is brilliant in these blushers, and NYX have about 30 different shade variations in the range – I’ve got my eye on Desert Rose, Mauve and Natural. Buy here for £6.
Let me know in the comments of your handbag essentials, and if you’ve tried any products in this list! As always you can tweet me @MakingItUpBlog, follow me on Instagram @JMetliss, and email me on firstname.lastname@example.org – I’d love to hear of any post requests or product recommendations!
