28 July, 2014 July Favourites
Seeing as it’s nearly the end of the month, I thought this would be a good time to collect a few bits and pieces I’ve been enjoying and share them with the small group of people reading this blog.
Starting with skincare: I have been using the Clarins Lotus Facial Treatment Oil for about a week now and so far it’s been doing wonders for my oily/combination skin. After cleansing and toning at night, I take a few drops of this in my palms, rub them together and then pat onto my skin with light strokes. Initially I was sceptical to use an oil on my already oily skin, but this works to clarify the skin and keep oil production overnight to a minimum. When I wake up there is a slight residue but it actually feels quite nice, definitely a more nourishing sensation than being heaped with oil and grease (sexy I know).
Nails are looking crappy, apologies..
My all-time favourite moisturiser is nearly finished and I’m not happy about this at all. The L’Occitane Ultra Matte Fluid is the perfect moisturiser to use before I put my makeup on. It glides on beautifully, keeps shine at bay and doesn’t dry my skin out. It’s expensive at £29 but for 50ml of product I do think you get your money’s worth. A little goes a long way and it smells delicious!
Moving onto makeup, there have been three products that I’ve used every day this month and will absolutely definitely 100% repurchase. Number one is the The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 03. This is THE perfect bronzer – it doesn’t look orange on the skin, it blends in nicely and gives a matte finish. The product comes in 4 shades, and definitely leans more to paler skin tones – after a week in the sun I’ve been using the powder to replace my usual MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus which I use to control shine and even up my skintone. It’s £12 and well worth the money.
Number two is the Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Glow in the combination Sculpting Medium and Candlelight. This is a cream formula contouring and highlighting kit, which comes in a teeny tiny compact and works to chisel out cheekbones where there previously were none. I don’t usually get on with cream formulas, but with a tan this is a lovely and subtle way to look polished and put together without having to slap on lots of product. I set this with the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural (see link above) to keep it from slipping around in the hot weather.
Lastly, the Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector is probably the best primer I’ve tried in a long time. I love primers – separate blog post to follow – and am always on the hunt for a miracle cure for my enlarged pores and excess shine. When I tried this in-store, I was told that this wasn’t just a primer, but a ‘do it all’ product that I could use when I didn’t feel like wearing makeup at all. Obviously I fell for it and purchased it there and then. Luckily, the product lives up to its claims and helps to keep my skin looking clear and shine-free. My pores definitely appear smaller and I haven’t had to retouch with powder as often (something I usually do 50 times a day!) – again, this product is expensive at around £23 but it has definitely improved the texture of my skin, so it’s going on the repurchase list.
Honourable mention: I’ve been wearing my L’Oreal Color Riche Collection Privee Lipstick in Cheryl’s Nude for a month or two now and I’m loving it. It’s the perfect pinky/nudey/creamy/mauvey colour that feels so comfortable on the lips. The only drawback with this is that it lasts for a maximum of 2 hours, so touch ups are necessary!
I hope you’ve enjoyed skimming through my July faves – will be back soon with more beauty goodness!
